Khoon Ki Pyaas

Milieu: It was my first unaccompanied travel by train and I was flipping through the pages of India Today to break the monotony of snores and jerks and rhythm of wheels. Godhara riots were on and the magazine was full of reports filled with gory details of the numb and cold strategies homo sapiens were devising to render each other numb and cold. My saddended faculties reached saturation and shot back and I ended penning down these lines on the editorial page.

खून की प्यास

कितने प्राणों की आस यह, ईश स्वरुप मानव की काया,
क्षणभर में तू फूंक इसे दे, ग्रंथों ने क्या यही सिखाया?
अपनों को ही समझ पराया, आँख मूँद संहार कराया,
मृत प्रज्ञा ने तेरी क्या, रब-रहीम में अंतर पाया?

इंसा ही इंसा को डसता ,  क्षीण अनोखे बंधन करता,
नफ़रत की ज्वाला में जलता, खो बैठा अपनी मानवता,
मार-काट, लूट-पाट, कपट-द्वेष-अत्याचार का तांडव रचता,
निर्मम ह्रदय प्रदर्शित करता, अपनी बेहद बर्बर क्षमता|

तलवार थामते  तेरे हाथ, क्या कोमल कौर चख पाएंगे?
चीत्कार से छलनी कान, क्या संगीत सुरूर कर पाएंगे?
चंचल बालक, मासुम करतब, क्या मुस्कान तुम्हारी लौटाएंगे?
बहता खून, जमते आंसूं, तुमको जीवन पर्यंत सतायेंगे,

जागते चक्षु, सोते स्वपन, तुम्हारे काल दृश्य दोहराएंगे|
