A Beautiful Mind - Part II

A Beautiful Mind - Part II

She asked me to accompany her,
To the abode of life and tranquility,
The famed ashram, to fetch a potion
For the emperor of maladies;
The purpose brought alive memories
Which kept her melancholic
Till it was time for lunch and we headed
To the sylvan glade a mile away.

Leaving shoes outside as per custom, anxious was I
But she reassured given the sanctity of the place.
A sea of devotees was seated across
The rows of mats in the huge dining,
Where synchronized serving and partaking hands
Appeared to create dancing waves,
Soon we were a part of these waves
And came out satiated and smiling.

As destined my shoes had disappeared,
Feeling guilty she offered me her pair,
I refused and insisted on walking barefoot,
Seeing her pleas fail, she picked up hers
And started accompanying me barefoot!
It was my turn to protest but to no avail and
With her shoes dangling merrily in her hand,
We covered the mile back arguing.

I was used to walking like this and
Was least affected; unaccustomed,
Her feet got badly bruised, yet
The only thought playing on her mind
Was that she was the reason behind my
Supposed loss and plight, though
My real trouble was to hold back tears
As she drove us back some fifty miles.
